Director

Leads development of digital library resources for the Lawrence Campus.
Coordinates selection of intellectual resources for digitization, strategies
used to promote their access and techniques for presentation and deployment. Leads planning and development and assesses emerging technologies. Prepares external funding proposals in consultation with library and information technology leaders..

Coordinated projects to support University information technology planning and policy development.  Provided analysis in all areas of information policy relevant to information technology, including issues of privacy, access, intellectual property and freedom of expression. Coordinated Digital Millennium Copyright Act and network communications incidents compliance.  Performed high level data analysis; assisted with long range and strategic planning.   Assisted in communication with the University community, the public, and various governmental agencies.  Participateed in campus data management (data warehouse) program.  Member of Data Warehouse Technical Infrastructure Task Force.  Member of Digital Library Executive Group.  Member of Digital Library Technical Infrastructure Task Force.  Member of BioOne Working Group, with emphasis on technology development and licensing.  Coordinated campus preparation for and reporting to the State for Y2K readiness.

Responsible for management of Library Systems, Monographic Cataloging, Serials / Acquisitions, Cooperative Access Services (Interlibrary Loan, Michigan InformationTranfer Service [fee-based services], and Buhr Remote Shelving), and Preservation (approximately 140 staff total).  Library-wide management responsibilities included budget management (directly responsible for over $2 million in non-personnel funds), general personnel oversight, policies, and planning.  Worked closely with Associate Director for Digitial Library Initiative and Associate Director for Public Services to coordinate development and maintenance support resources for digital libray projects.

Library’s Liaison to various University groups including:

MPathways (PeopleSoft) project: responsible for communications, problem resolution between Library and Project staff, coordinating Library implementation of the financials module, training and security management

IT-Federation Group: group responsible for coordinating efforts of major IT providers on campus

Year 2000 Task Force and Y2K Interoperability Working Group: charged with evaluating and ensuring Y2K readiness for the campus.

Librarian - Head, Library Systems Office (October 1991 – May 1999)

Responsible for planning and implementing automation efforts for the Library.  Duties included managing the Library Systems Office (8 staff) which is responsible for maintaining the Library's NOTIS system (Library Management System, Multiple-Database Access System, and Infoshare), providing hardware support, and technical support for various UNIX-based systems (webserver, OCLC’s WebZ product, Ovid); assisting administration in long-range automation planning efforts; managing the automation budget; liaison to various units in the University's Information Technology Division.  Major development projects included TULIP (The University Licensing Project, with Elsevier), Core Journals, the CIC VEL, and the CIC ILL/DR.  Worked closely with Digital Library Initiatives staff on project coordination.

Group is responsible for coordination and implementation of automation projects for the CIC institution libraries.  Involved in major projects including the Virtual Electronic Library (linking catalogs via Z39.50, and patron initiated interlibrary loan (CIC ILL/DR); US Dept. of Education grants) and coordination of the OCLC Cooperative Online Reource Catalog (CORC) project with the Technical Services Directors group.

Responsible for joint development with OCLC of a distributed Interlibrary Loan / Document Retrieval (ILL/DR) system for the CIC.  Tasks included specifications development, software testing, and overall project management in coordination with the OCLC project manager and OCLC Vice President for Development.
